2020 has been a challenge and it’s easy to focus on the chaos and caught up in the news. However good stuff is happening too.

16 years ago I joined the Art Academy, a community of hard working, skilled artists that weren’t part of the establishment. They weren’t well known or seen as cutting edge but they were visionary, incredibly passionate about making art and developing creativity in others. We were united in our desire to share our knowledge and create an art school that put the student experience above everything else. In the very early days as we’d meet in my studio on the fourth floor on Union street we always imagined that one day we’d convert our well crafted diploma into a BA. It’s been an incredible journey, taken perseverance, dedication, a massively supportive family and broader community. There have been casualties along the way and from those early meetings only a few of us remain but we continued to drive things forward. Today marks a huge moment in @artacademylondon history as we assessed our first ever BA Fine Art graduates alongside our foundation degree in portraiture and our fine art diploma. It’s a moment to reflect and be grateful ofwhat we have done.

It’s weird when you can remember sitting on the top of the number 63 bus from kings cross to Southwark designing a project that 15 years later has been validated some amazing artists using it as a starting point to build their body of work from. I couldn’t be prouder to run this art school. I’ve learnt an incredible amount and it’s responsible for turning some of my hair grey. But my passion to create a space that enables artists to share knowledge and enable others that to learn remains the same. It takes a lot to knock us down and although COVID has been devastating we will find our way through it. For now that is irrelevant, today is about celebrating. So well done @andygrinhamart @mercedes.balle @emilyrussellthomas @gloria_cavicchioli Masa, @artistpauls @ruthsportraits @corriegeorgalart @suzonlagarde @susan_t_l @fionafeng_art @aliciagriffithsart @katecrumpler @zora.owen @jonfaragher thanks for your faith in us and good luck you will be remember

Finished ramming another rammed earth sculpture. H Finished ramming another rammed earth sculpture. Here is the record of the layers. I do this as I go along so that I can see what I've done and can adjust the mixes and decide what to put in each layer.

Merry Christmas all. Social media has just reminde Merry Christmas all. Social media has just reminded me that on this day 6 years ago my cousin sent me this snap of Cotswold Life @cotswoldlife featuring me with the amazing sculptor Eilis O'Connell @eilisoconnell_sculptor and also featuring 'The Thief' by @davidmachra
It was from the private view of Cruscible2 at @gloucestercathedral organised by @pangolineditions and @gallerypangolin

I wonder if I make other appearances in the society pages and just never find out 😂
Today's #inktoberquote is brought to you by Audrey Today's #inktoberquote is brought to you by Audrey Hepburn.

I really do think if you have enough time or resources you can achieve anything. And it is an 'or' in that sentence. If you have enough time you can achieve amazing things even on very little money. If you have loads of money to throw at a problem you can achieve lots in a short space of time.

I've learnt this through having ideas for sculptures or works of art. If you have enough time, a bit of spare cash and the space, you can make anything you want.

The problem is many of us are missing both. As a mother maker, with 3 children, both can seem in short supply. So a few years ago I adjusted my time frame expectations. I'm now really trying to look after my health as I need to have a career that lasts till I'm in my 90s so I can achieve all my ambitions for my practice.

Nothing is impossible, but we need to decide what it is we really want to make happen. What is that you that you want to be?

This is part of my collaboration with @drtaraswart
